Austrian Bufo calamita

Postby Mario Schweiger » Thu Sep 30, 2010 7:20 am

Hello,

last weekend I´ve been at a Symposion in Litschau, northernmost Lower Austria.
Just a few miles from there, one of the two populations of Bufo calamita is living in our country.
Weather has been cold and rainy.
This population lives just a few meters (bee-line 360 m) from the Czech border. The second population is in northern Tyrol.
Here are a few pics from this sand pit.
Unfortunately we found only youngsters from this year. The last have been just on their way out of the water.

Very nice! I like that second last pic. I've never seen one, but I can imagine how tiny these newly metamorphosed babies are.
