Herping Holland!

Postby Sjuul Verhaegh » Sat Sep 10, 2011 11:42 am

Last past weeks Tim Leerschool and I went out in the field for 3 days. On 16 August we found 9 Adders (Vipera berus) and 2 small Smooth snakes (Coronella austriaca). Also a lots of Viviparous lizards, Sand lizards and Slow worms. On 3 September we went out again, this time with the Herpetologic studygroup Limburg. It was a bit to hot for snakes, after turning woods we found a Smooth snake and a Natterjack (Bufo calamita) witch was new for me as specie. Yesterday on 9 September the weather predictions where good, so we went out. This time we found 22 Smooth snakes and 8 Adders. We found several juveniles of both species!

Some pictures!

A note, we have the permits to handle these snakes for research and a permit to enter this area.

Hope you enjoyed!

 For somebody who just recently traveled 4 hours to see viperas this is an odd statement. I'm guessing you like Vipera aspis better then Vipera berus. ;)

Nice Pictures Sjuul, Some photo's are almost identical to some of mine only from a slightly different angle

Kind regards,

Tim
