Postby Niklas Ban » Wed Jan 04, 2012 8:56 pm

Hey there,
I am planning a trip to Ticino and I have a few questions.
Do somebody know where in Ticino is a good place for Herping. I am an amateur in herping and so
I want so see some Vipers. ( Never see one in habitat). I want to get there in the summer I know thats not
the best time for vipers but maybe you could give me some advices.
best regards
Niklas :D

I don't think anyone will give you specific spots without knowing you, sorry... I have personally no experience in that area (= searched only briefly without finding anything once).

Jeroen is right. It isn't done. For example, Herbert Billing told me this summer that
Swiss herpetologists have reached an overall agreement NOT to reveal any particular
places to just anybody who might happen to ask. A person must be known, or have
strong recommendations from someone who is. Failing that, a request is simply ignored,
noone bothers to answer...

It was clear to me that nobody will send me a exact point where I could find something.
But some tips what favorite places for Vipera aspis are in summertime. I think I have to search
in the early morning and in the late afternoon. But do I have to search in higher regions or in tales? Does it matter?
Best Regards
Niklas

There's a lot of precipitation in Ticino, especially in summer. Take advantage of overcast days or search before and after rain. Higher altitudes are not that bad... ;)
