I've just decided to rename this post and use it for my and Yannick's herping sessions in Vaud. As a lucky student, Yannick is currently on holidays and of course, he goes herping as often as he can. Here are pictures of one of his sessions a week ago.

05.09.2011

As it had rained yesterday and this night and as the temperature was around 20 degrees and weather was sunny with some residual clouds, we were expecting a great session. But it finally wasn't that good...we ended up with only 1 snake, a baby Hierophis (at least, this was my first ever baby Hierophis and it surprised me to see how calm it was compared with an adult...;-)) and many green lizards as usually. Oh and at the whole end of the day, hidden under a plate, a nice Salamandra!

Hi,

Nice finds again and happy for you for this first young viridiflavus. A calm one...well, are you sure it was really a viridiflavus ? I can't believe it :)

Thanks Guillaume! Well, I must admit that if I hadn't seen this by myself, I probably wouldn't believe that a baby Hierophis is calm. But as said, it hardly bite my finger twice and then, it even stayed calm while we were taking pictures!!

According to the new rules, I allow myself to put a picture which shows how small this Hierophis was.

Hi,

I'm not usually a big fan of Coronella but the grey one is really nice. Good news for the young asp :!: :) As you go to your spot on a regular basis, it would be interesting to have a follow-up of the specimens that live there, as you suggested. It would be also interesting to know when you will make your last observation of the year.
