Short trip to Allgäu

Postby Guillaume Gomard » Mon Apr 21, 2014 6:51 pm

After all those nice reports on the Balkans, I'm posting some "German stuff" following the past 3 days spent in the Allgäu region. The weather was changing a lot during this long week-end: Snow on Friday, sun on Saturday, and a mix of clouds and sun on Sunday and Monday. All in all, 1 full day was dedicated to herping. The first attempt to observe V.berus close to a "moor" was not successful because of a too cloudy sky. Nevertheless, I was pleased to meet Jürgen, our Vipera aficionado :) Today I tried my chance again, and thanks to a more favourable weather (some sun around 9 a.m), and despite the wrong weather forecast (those guys can definitely not predict the weather those days...), I could photograph several adders in situ. I know someone who will certainly go back there soon... ;)

The highlight of the day, a very beautiful and calm animal:

The weather for herping was horrible (fog, clounds, low temperatures) on Sunday morning! When I arrived my home village I had full sun and was able to Picture a few Lacerta agilis.

Big congrats! I like the first one!

Yes, same place. All the adders were seen directly close to the walking path. This morning I also searched in moors close to Immenstadt. Although I did not seen anything (too early I guess), there is no doubts that adders are living there as well. A lot of interesting spots in this region and not so much time for proper investigation...

Amazing landscape on the first picture and the in-situ adder shots are great!

Hui, great landscape and a very beautiful black adder! Nice to see the snow covered peaks of the Allgäu and some snake activity in one post. Thanks for sharing!

Guillaume,

Great to see berus in such stunning scenery .. in the UK it tends to be exposed chalk hillsides or moorland..not so pretty.

Admittedly Paul it is pretty crappy down south, we were here last week cracking scenery, cracking adders and a cracking pint and it wasn't even in Yorkshire :D .

Nice adders Guillaume. I have been there several times last week. There are still not so many adders outside as normally later in the year.
