German Natrix of 2014

Postby Guillaume Gomard » Sat Nov 15, 2014 4:53 pm

Hi all,

I'm currently ordering my Natrix pics taken during 2014 (only in Germany), and take the opportunity to post a selection in this thread. Let's start with some dice snakes from Rheinland-Pfalz observed during summer:

For the first time in 2 years, I encountered a N.natrix in Black Forest. Here is the identity of the simulator:

One of the highlight of the year was the discovery of a very good Natrix spot close to my place, not far from the Rhine. I found this spot by chance after a heavy rain followed by sunny weather: In less than 100m I could see 5 specimens basking close to the trail. I came several times to this place between May and September to observe big individuals as well as the new generation of grass snakes:

And this is why they are so many in that particular place:

A review of the Asp vipers pics of the year should follow next...

Natrix there are clearly well-fed! Andre, I was wondering if you, in your part of the Black Forest, encountered regularly N.natrix? How often does it occur during your berus sessions?

Hi Guillaume,

yes sometimes I´ve luck to see a Natrix in the berus habitat. In the recent years I have maybe 3-5 Natrix sightings per year there (but only adults, I never saw a young one there)

Super pictures! I would love to see a grass snake with an adder.
