New borns Vipera aspis October 2013

Here are some pictures I took on the 21st of October 2013. I've had the amazing chance to be in the field on the day of some Vipera aspis births. And in my opinion, I've missed the births only by a few minutes as some of the babies hadn't even shed yet and they were all together very close to a skinny female.

Here's the skinny female

And the freshly born babies

Unfortunately, some were dead like one of those two

And a bit further in the same spot, I've seen some tens of other babies:

At the end, I couldn't count all the babies I had seen but probably more than 20! What an amazing day it was. I'm still missing the mating of Vipera aspis but at least, I've had the chance to witness something even rarer :D

Great find indeed! I love the last shot of the baby asp that has (or so it seems) crawled upwards in the vegetation to catch the sunrays! :D

Thanks for sharing! I wish you the best of luck with seeing the mating of the asp this year.

Very nice to look again at this cool serie of pics. I also think that it was a question of few hours so that you can see the whole birth process. Just try your luck at the end of this season.

I look forward for 2017 to see your 2015 pictures :D Yeah I know how procrastination can be...
