Eiffel and Moselle 4 day trip

Postby Pablo Deschepper » Mon Mar 21, 2016 10:16 am

Hi all,

I am going to the Eiffel and Moselle (aka Musel, Mosel, Moezel,...) next weekend. I want it to be a mixture of a wine tasting, hiking and hopefully herping holiday :D . I can't find much info on good places (are there any berus in that region?). I don't wanna look for anything specific, just some amfibians and reptiles. Help would be appreciated :)

Cheers,
Pablo

Dear Pablo,
In the Mosel valley you can find Natrix natrix, Coronella austriaca, Lacerta bilineata, P. muralis. In higher altitudes in the Eifel also Zootoca and L. agilis. No berus in that area.
Note, that everything is very late this year due to a very cold March.
You best look at some "natural" wineyards on southern slopes.

Good luck & take some Aspirin for the wine tasting...

Cheers
Peter

Thanks you for your recommendations! I'll keep them in mind! Do I have to take my own Aspirin? I thought they would add some grinded aspirins in the wine?... :D

Hi Pablo,

I've been at Eifel-Urftsee once too.
It was not really a herping-trip -with my girlfriend- and the weather was pretty cold and a little rainy.
Still we saw two Grass snakes, some Podarcis muralis, Anguis fragilis and a Zootoca vivipara.

The area seems to be a nice place for herping. Hopefully the weather will be sunny and not too cold.
