Reproduction of Orthriophis taeniurus friesei in Belgium?

Postby Peter Engelen » Wed Jul 06, 2016 1:00 pm

In 2006 we found the first adult next to a railroad. We thought this was an escaped one. Also in 2009 and 2010 we found one and named it an escaped animal.
In 2015 we found 8 including 2 juveniles.
In 10 years we found 25 pieces.

Last week railroad workers found a snake and when the took the rails away for a repair the found the eggs.

The problem is that all the snakes are on a very busy railroad where it isn't possible to do a good search.

Very interesting!
The animal in the picture is a gravid female, but, sorry, not a friesi (Taiwan subspecies).
I've kept friesi in the terrarium for years, had many animals and they could breed with no difficulties. Friesi has black "blotches" on the anterior part of the dorsum, which becomes black stripes towards the lower body and tail.
The color and markings of the female of the picture are surely not of a friesi (typical big black blotches on the anterior part of the body are absent): probably an hybrid with other mainland chinese subspecies?

What do you think about those animals. They are from last year.

It's possible that there lives a mix from several subspecies cause the source of the population is probably a local terrarium store.

Did you take the snakes with you or let them there?
If not, did you find the same individuals several times?

I would say.... most of their "blood" is O.taeniurus taeniurus :D

I would even say that the two big and beautiful specimens in the hands are "perfect" examples of this subspecies:

Beautiful snakes! :)
