Krk in July (advice needed)

Postby Andreas Schild » Tue Jun 15, 2021 12:00 pm

Hi everyone

I thought about a 1-2 weeks trip to Krk, Croatia in July (I wanted to go in May but this didn't work out). I enjoy every herp I see but I especially love snakes. So my wish list for Krk would be:

- Zamenis situla!!!
- Vipera ammodytes!!!
- Hierophis gemonensis!
- Elaphe quatuorlineata!

- Algyroides nigropunctatus

- Bufotes viridis

I know, July is really hot and I've seen other posts here that say that it is possible to see reptiles but very early or at night. I've never done herping at night but I guess you still walk by stone walls etc. as you would during the day?

I am a beginner and have never been there. Could you give me some advice, especially for these snake species?

May I ask for some good spots? Concerning the policy of this forum, a PM would be best, I guess. I just don't wanna go there and find nothing because I am inexperienced...

Is someone maybe even planning to go too? And would not mind if I accopany him/her? :D

Looking forward to your comments
Best wishes
Andreas

I am considering a trip to Krk in early september. Does anyone know whether this would this be a good time for herping or still too hot as well?

Thanks Mario
I have actually looked at your trips before while planning and decided to go to Krk because of i.a. what you found there. ;)

Hello Andreas, i will go to Krk in the middle of August, but mainly I will focus on the species Telescopus fallax and Zamenis situla. If you want to I can say you a few spots for E. quatuorlineata or Telescopus fallax. Yours Matthias!
