Berner Oberland- looking for satisfaction
Posted: Sat May 28, 2011 7:45 pm
On Friday the 20th I found my first Vipera aspis former “atra”. And I found two!! Hurray!!
But I was not satisfied because the banded I found was very dirty and the black was in shedding.
So I decided to go back in this valley again very soon!
Today I made a new try. I started in the Morning at 4.45 h and arrived in the valley at 9.00 h. The car shows outside temperature 5 Degrees. The sun was behind a huge, dark cloud and that won`t disappear.
So I flipped some Stones and found a Salamandra atra and a Zootoca vivipara.
Then I drove deeper in the valley found some sun and a Coronella austriaca. Car shows outside temperature 7 Degrees.
and a nice Rana temporaria
I saw that the sun came out in that part of the valley I was first and drove back. When I arrived the sun was behind a huge, dark cloud and a cold wind was blowing.
But I don`t care and start searching for Vipera aspis. I looked for the place where I found the banded last Friday.
And exact at the same place I found a black one, a gravid female.
I found the banded one about 80 meters higher today.
Later I found two more blacks.
Adult Male
Young Male
At 13.30 h I left the valley, Temperature 13 Degrees, and drove back home.
