Just a few Bog-pics

Postby Jürgen Gebhart » Tue Jun 07, 2011 2:17 pm

Today I was in a bog that I visited the last time more than two years ago.
Of course I was looking for Vipera berus, but I don` t found one. In the moment it is very difficult for me to find them, don`t know why.
Made a few “in situ” shots of Zootoca vivipara.

Later I was very surprised to find a Lacerta agilis there, it was the first time I found them in a Bog.

I was in the right time there to observe the mating of Pelophylax lesonae and made also a few shots of them, but I`m not sure if they are all lesonae, maybe some esculentus are also there.

Did he grin???? ;)

Hello Jürgen

its the same for me, here in the Baden-Württemberg part of the "Allgäu" in the last time the berus are very diffucult to find, it seems to be to hot. The last three berus I found on "colder" days after rain, one was even sitting in the rain.
The agilis are interesting, I made the same observation in some bogs here, mostly they are very dark and live in the same habitat as the Zootocas. But I mostly only find one, seldom two while 2 hours searching. I wonder where they lay they´re eggs?

I think the less perfect egg laying places in that areas are the reason why we saw less lacerta agilis and also Natrix natrix.
The agilis female looks thin, I think it lays eggs a few days before, hope she found a safe place.

The last time I found one of these bog-agilis again, if I look at this one, the coloration is just perfect for these sourrounding.

And also some berus again, but now in summer the vegetation is so high its not easy to find them.
