Oh yes!! Finally, my friend Yannick has managed to take pictures of the beautiful red male asp viper from one of our best spots. He found him at around 4 pm, 2 hours after it had rained. It's a specimen I had already seen in the begining of the year and Yannick had also seen him some time ago but he escaped very fast. Unfortunately, I didn't take part in this herping session because I was working but I hope you'll enjoy the pictures as much as I did ;-)

This Red John is a very nice one, I think Patrick Jane will like him! ;)

Really nice coloration, it makes me think of the kind of red vipers you can encounter in some part of the Savoie Region, France.

Wow, there will be more to come one day. I've received a message from Yannick (he's still on holidays the poor student and I'm still stuck at work...) and this morning, he has seen a second red indivudal but with lighter colours than this one. He hasn't been able to take a picture so I hope we'll be able to do it before the end of the year.

@ Jürgen: Actually, it's Patrick Jane himself who introduced me to this beauty ;-)

@ Guillaume: Yeah I also remember when I was a kid (about 20 years ago...) I had made a fieldherping week-end in the Franches-Comté and we had seen many different variations of asp vipers including some red and some yellow specimen! Anyway, if you want to have a chance to see Red John, let me know next time you come near Lausanne ;-)
