Today I found adder males that were fighting and courting females. Of course they were at it inside a dense thicket and it was impossible to find any angles where I could get a decent shot. Instead I found a female willing to pose. These pics were taken in the worst possible lightning conditions. I used two flash units and still could not kill the shades!

Magnus,

Lovely pics.. shame you could not get a picture of the combating males, I once spent hours taking pics of crested tits, on the way back to the car I found two stunning male asp vipers duelling away.. I excitedly started to take pictures only to find I was out of battery... beautiful to watch, but gutting to not get photos.. lesson learn, I now have an extended battery pack and carry spare batteries :D

Cheers Paul

Nice story Paul. I need to update my field equipment with a chainsaw and a hedge trimmer so that I can thin out thickets and bushes to get my shots :)

Cheers!
