Norway - spring 2015

Postby Thor Hakonsen » Fri May 15, 2015 11:00 am

This has been a rather slow spring for me, not finding any adders before may (the first ones were out some places in mid-february)

Hopefully some more will be found, maybe even one of the elusive Smooth Snakes.

Always nice to see the contrasted adders from Norway. I´m just curious about their habitat: would you also have a couple of pics showing the surroundings?

I will see what I can find Guillaume. The habitats for the ones from the eastern part of Norway (Akershus) is rather different from the ones found in the western part (Rogaland)

I could not find any from eastern parts of Norway (even though I know I have them somewhere on my mobile) - but here is some typical habitat from the western parts of Norway - Karmøy, Rogaland.

The spring is perhaps by definition over - but the summer is by no means here yet..

A couple of days ago I finally found my first Coronella austriacas on my own. Prior I only had seen one juvenile and a tail dissapearing under a to big rock.

The smooth snake has a very restricted range in Norway, and only close to the coast in the southern and eastern parts.

Great to see some herps from so far North, and such contrasting habitat to the typical berus sites in the UK.
