My first Coronella!! (DUW)

Postby Mourits Løvholt » Mon Jun 13, 2011 12:24 am

Hi everybody!

I've been on a little trip to Norway this weekend to search for Coronella austriaca!
I met up with the biologist, Bård who joined me while herping.

I'm so sorry about the large number of pictures, I'm just so excited about my new lifer!
Yesterday, after many, many hours we had success!:

Mourits,

Congratulations on you lifer :D the smooth snake is the UKs rarest (native) reptile and the secrecy of the sites its enormous. I did not see a smooth snake in my own country till I was 37..( you probably cant imagine being that old) although they are common in the areas of France I regularly visit...

Once a year I normally make a pilgrimage down to the Dorset sites and scoop up all the UK rarities in a day.. weather permitting, smooth snake, sand lizard, wall lizard and green lizard all at sites close to one another. I will be going at the end of July :D to coincide with bog orchid and some damsel flies as well..

Great pics, especially the berus :D

Cheers

Paul:

Good luck at your trip to Dorset! :)
You especially like the berus?
I chose not to post too many pictures of other reptiles than the Coronellas, but if you like the berus so much :D :

Congrats for the Coronella.
I have also never seen a Coronella. But I will try my fortune this year around Berlin.
