I`m still in Moldavia getting ready for the family events like birthdays and weddings that we actually came here for this time, but at least in the last couple of days i had the opportunity to go birding and herping.

Finding stuff in the summer usually means locating cattle watering holes and poking around abandoned wells and farm buildings. Not the most galamorous kind of wildlife watching, but it does work.
I'll start with some rare or endangered birds, both here as well as in Romania:

birds.JPG
Tadorna tadorna, Egreta garzetta, Himantopus himantopus and Larus cachinans

rec avi.JPG
Recurvirostra avosetta

pel ono.JPG
Pelecanus onocrotalus

tad fer2.JPG
Tadorna ferugineea

And now for the more common ones:

Vanellus vanellus

rip rip.JPG
Riparia riparia

lan col.JPG
Lanius collurio

Moving on to the herps now, in case you did't scroll directly over here: ;)

pel rid.JPG
Pelophylax ridibundus

pel fus.JPG
Pelobates fuscus

bom bom.JPG
Bombina bombina

buf vir.JPG
Bufo viridis

pod tau.JPG
Podarcis tauricus

lac agi.JPG
Lacerta agilis

nat nat.JPG
Natrix natrix

We`ll be heading back on Monday, so there is still a chance of turning up some cool species al least while travelling from one relative to another; but since both Corina and myself are fighting a common cold at the momment i thought it safer to make the post now.
Hope everyone found something they liked.

Cheers!

 What's with the congregation of frogs under the tauricus. Were those flipped? Now that's a photo with different species in it! I don't think I've seen one with three herp species on the same spot (or are there more?):) I also love the Natrix shot! Very nice variety of birds too. Looks like you had a good time.

That congregation Ilian is just the tip of the iceberg, unfortunately. Imagine spadefoots burying into a mass of dozens of trapped spadefoots...

So do you mean they were all in a manhole or something? I f they were, did you get them out? There are a few B.viridis as well...

Yeah, they all endend up in quite a few deep manholes that were filled among others with rusty metal objects and dead dogs, way to dangerous to descend into, even if i had some rope or a ladder, wich i didn`t, as we were tryng to keep a low profile while traveling in the separatist region of Gagauzia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gagauzia).
