For the last 3 years I've been looking for Pelobates vespertinus, but without any success. This spring I've found it in my garden :) I've digged it out when preparing flower beds.

What an amazing way to find a new species! If it only would be that easy all the time... ;) But your Pelobates should be Pelobates vespertinus.

Thanks :)

As far as I know, vespertinus is a subspecies of P. fuscus. In the book 'Amphibians and reptiles of the Province of Saratov' it is described as P. fuscus. If you have any PDFs about latest news in Pelobates taxonomy, please, share them with me!

Go to the start page of this forum, follow the link to Mario's Amphibians and Reptiles Database, and browse the linked literature. See Litvinchuk et al. 2013.

Gardening is a key to find it ;)
