No need to apologize you guys!
I`m no expert on the berus complex, but i did see both forms in Romania, so if they decide to split nikoskii from berus, i have them checked on the list.
When it comes to Modavia, the things change a bit. I herp in this `country` for about five years, and although i`ve seen most herps and did some range extensions for some species, the vipers did not cross my path so far.
It`s not easy to find good habitats where i won`t get arested for not being able to make myself clear about my intentions. In the west there is lots of cigarette smuggling; in the east there is a separatist region (Transnistria) and they have many guns! In the south and north there are the ukrainean borders, and i speak no russian whatsoever. As you can imagine, nice snake habitats are just in these regions...
Another problem is habitat modification - the steppe is turned into crops, and the mature oak forests are replaced with Acacia ... I hate Acacia plantations, and they are just a over the place!
It` is forbidden to go into the main adder reserves without a written permision. So far i did not get any reply to a the e-mails i`ve sent requesting one... And to top it all, acording to recent studies, the introduction of
renardi failed, and all the known
modavica popuations dissapeared along with their habitats.
But i`m not giving up that easy!
