Meanwhile I came around a bit more, and my addiction to siculus/lizards seems to get stronger (very much to the chagrin of the rest of the excursion group  )

But let's start with the more fierce guys:

He was a bit too clumpsy, after they fell down twice he gave up..

Saturnia pyri, really amazing, those hands are above-average-size ;-)

To be honest, I'm also quite often having a bit on the side , here a 22° - Halo with a fragment of an horizontal arc.

And he's glimpsing down on the last pic

Many thanks to all the guys who built stonewalls, so that i didn't have to crawl on my stomache all the time.. and the rest of the crew (not only for) for helping the old man up again :D!

Great stuff - stunning looking lizards.

What's the story with the moth?

There's no big story behind the moth, it was just the first time in my life to see this species alive - and it had really amazing dimensions compared to the other moths i saw up to now, esp. those in my wardrobe ;-)

Did it just flap it's way in through an open window after dark?

Nope, Boris found it at night (I expect it was at least visible crawling around, but don't know any details ;-) ) and showed me on the next day it's hiding place amongst small bushes.

Pierre, just google "caspius Croatia", and you will find everything you need, published ;)

Gerald, shame on you, a million of P.siculus pictures, and none of Malpolon?! Seriously ...

NOT trying to tease P.-Y. in the least, it's just that this question fits so nicely into the discussion under
an another thread, very active at the moment...
(Maybe Mario could transfer this to that thread?)

Now, Jeroen, what do YOU think about publicly answering this question? This locality of D. caspius was
published in an international journal in 2009, so should one just give HERE the reference of the paper,
for everyone to read, or should one do it privately, or not at all? Mind you, a regular article in a regular
scientific journal, so, what now?
Not only Jeroen, of course, I'd like to here as many opinions as possible.
