We came back from MNE on Saturday after scoring our targets, though our species list is not quite as impressive - we seem to have got a complimentary list of species to our last visit in 2011.

Will post a report with pics later this week.

Jealous of the Cat snake

Thanks, I look forward to reading your report and seeing what was found in other places. Don't be jealous of the Cat snake, it was a complete fluke, I looked down and it was there!
I don't know how others feel about situations like that, I am glad to have seen the species involved but I always feel disappointed that the sighting is not as a result of using skills picked up from years of looking at habitats and hunting down certain target species.My first ever Leopard snake was found as I drove around the bend of a quiet road in Greece, it was crossing the road in front of me. Delighted to have found it but left feeling empty, someone may as well have just handed it to me.

Kevin, I know that feeling - but this is what makes herping cool: it's not like a cash and carry market - although at the best prepared trips you need luck! And situations like your Telescopus session are much more magic than going to a google earth spot mentioned by your friends, shooting the expected species and leaving...all herp findings are big presents

When there was me in those places I thought I had found paradise of vipers!


I thought I was here, this would be a fantastic place for a ammodytes, looked good and there: it appears!


I even found several together in thermoregulation August 15!

Too hot for ammodytes...

2 & 3. Anacamptis (formerly Orchis) morio
4. Neotinea (formerly Orchis) tridentata
5. Gymnadenia conopsea
