XI. Albanian Expedition (21.06-06.07.2014)

Postby Edvard Mizsei » Sat Jul 12, 2014 9:30 pm

Hi everybody,

We have been in Albania again. :) Now we started our grazing exsclusion study on a greek meadow viper habitat. After wrestling with razor wire we hiked up to 7 unknown but potential graeca habitat at separate mountains, and we found five new populations. :D We travelled by five cars with 21 person, and we visited the habitats in from two to four groups. In total we observed 20 specimens of Vipera graeca.

Congrats to your find(ing)s!
Very nice pictures ;)

Thats what I told to my Croatian friends, since the first observation in the Velebit mountains.
Ursinii macrops/graeca are not rare - people are rare, hiking up the mountains

Cool experiment! What's the endpoint = how long before you expect to see differences in the vipers' habitat use?

You are quite right, of course. Just try Bosnia - mountains are higher, ursiniis are even more
abundant, there are even less people going up there, but the minefields abound...
