Go out at (preferably a rainy) night and search the edges of (preferably) temporary ponds or the roads bordering those ponds. Then you should stand a fair chance. By day you need to be really lucky to encounter one of these toads by flipping or by finding them in the breeding water.

Survey wetland areas with loose (often sandy) soil after dark. Rain helps, strong wind does not. Abundance is usually lower than e.g. that of true toads, so persistence may be required. There are a number of good fresh water marshes close to the southern Black Sea Coast which tend to deliver.
