No, not really. But we saw some, But my knowledge of newts is very limited. We met up with some germans (Alex Pieh, Michael Wilms) and they did look more for them and found some species. I think they might have trip report some where.

Dear Thor,
as you know we enjoyed meeting up with you, the other Wikings, Jörg and Michael.
It is a shame that we have lost your pictures here in the forum!

I also don´t want to bore anyone with my writing.
However, it was a great trip with great company, great findings, in a great area, with enough food and some beer.

Yes, we have found also some newts. Lissotriton v. schmidtleri was very common,
L. vulgaris schmidtleri.jpg

Triturus ivanbureschi was hard to find.
We could not find adult Salamandra s. werneri.

Dear Michal,
please read:

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4361781/

"The range of schmidtleri protrudes further into the Balkan Peninsula, but its range limit is as yet unclear; newts with mitochondrial DNA typical of schmidtleri have been recorded as far north-west as easternmost Greece and central Bulgaria (Pabijan et al. 2014)."
Check also Speybroeck et al. 2016.

Take a close look at the hind feet. They are differnt to L. v. graecus. We found the second Taxa near to Olymp (thanks to Benny T.). Sorry for the bad pic
Alex

Some further pics from our trip to Thrace.
The Bufo bufo was found by Thor.
Any comments concerning the Pelopylax are more than wellcome and
however, the cutest face in Thrace was Pelobates syriacus.
