Isle of Giannutri (No snake pics!)

Isle of Giannutri (No snake pics!)

Postby Jürgen Gebhart » Wed Aug 08, 2012 6:35 pm

In July I spend with my wife our summer vacation in Tuscany/Italy.
It was too hot and dry for all and everything, but not for enjoy the fantastic food and excellent wine!
One Day we spend on the boring Island of Giannutri. This is the neighbor Island of Giglio what we visit two years ago.

You can do nothing on that Island beside swimming (We were not interested in) or picturing Lizards (What I have done).
To picture the Lizard population was the only reason to go to this Island.
(Oh wait, who am I???, Jürgen Gebhart the ignorant Vipera boy???) ;)
My wife was sitting under a tree and read a book and I was running around and try to find Lizards.
It takes time but than I find them basking in the shadow.
Like at Giglio the Podarcis siculus at Giannutri have a great variation in pattern and coloration.
Here are some pics.

Has anyone an Idea what the white crust on the noses is? Could it be sold?

Those are some nice lizards, especially the first one. I like tigerprint!

Very interesting, siculus seem very variable ans surprising that there is so much variation on one small island.

Those siculus are really having a nice variety in patterns. The first and the third one look really neat. I especially love the big blue scale coloration of the third one.

Unbelievable how bad my english is! Sold = Salt, thanks Jeroen.

Have you ever seen that at European Lizards?
I saw this only at Island Iguana`s and Platsaurus species in TV but never heard that from European Species.

I think I did, in lilfordi and filfolensis, but I deliberately didn't photograph those animals with their "dirty noses".

However, you can see (not very clear but still...) it a little bit in this Maltese chameleon I photographed =>

This was in a saltpan/marsh area too...
