Spring trip to Calabria and Sicily

Hi Bobby & all,

I heard from a italian guy that the weather was indeed quite bad last couple of weeks. Nevertheless you are reporting here some really nice species (I am thinking of Podarcis raffonei alvearioi and Zamenis lineatus, in particular) so I guess you put some energy into those findings! It seems that you have to make another trip soon for ammos and asps (I would be glad to join the crew then :) ).

Greetings,

Guillaume

You did not find Chupacabra (again), but it is still a great report! :D
I still think the Xenopus laevis looks like a toy with stitched eyes.

Now Bobby.. I'm not sure what a pino is.. But I may have got a picture of one on the raffonei island .. Should I post it and let the illuminati of the forum offer their IDs

Jurgers old fruit,

Yes... I caught a snake!! Actually I caught three!!

If I didn't have to protect you from tiny geckos in Israel, I would have caught more there

I will post some pics of the Sicilian adventure as soon as work calms down..

Cheers all

Thanks again for the comments everyone!

Paul, Pino is known in the UK as Big Bird. I think with GJ's tripreport things will become clearer but with the preview I have seen it is actually me who is Pino...

Seems I failed to respond to this one...

Obviously, I enjoyed this very much, also GJ's more indecent report.

What beautiful species lineatus is - simple but such warm colours. Love it! And waglerianus... And of course, everybody's got to love gigliolii and Salamandrina...

It's remarkable how unfriendly the weather can be in that part of Europe. Maybe we picked bad years, or there's a meteorogical/climate answer as to why so much is moving in Spain and Greece while southern Italy can still be so slow (at least for snakes). I will never understands why we found only 1,5 hugyi back in 2010. Seems this trip was even worse in terms of weather and the snake-wise result. On the up-side, conditions to admire raffonei were obviously much more beneficial, as in somewhat warmer weather they appeared skittish and shy to me.
