It took me some time, but I divided these pictures into three groups.

1) Type of habitat
2) Pictures of H.viridiflavus taken from a rather big distance
3) Pictures of H.viridiflavus taken from a rather short distance

We can begin with the pictures of the habitat: an old dam (stone wall) with water on one side and a dry stone precipice on the other side.

Now the pictures of H.viridiflavus taken from a certain distance, because of the particular type of habitat...

Specimens shown here are usually very big and massive ones, normally black and yellow, but sometimes almost totally black (no black snakes in my pictures, sorry).
They can even jump downwards and run with an impressive speed (but at first they literally and obviously "fly" for a while, if they jump from the top of the dam downwards...).

Nice constrasting colored viridiflavus there.

some damn good photos

I returned yesterday in this place, and things don't go well: there have been many human works, many snakes have been killed (very probably), and there is almost no water at all in the lake.
But I managed to see something interesting and to use my new Lumix.
All the pictures are in situ, and many from great distance.


This is my second attempt to post pictures: yesterday the web pages have crashed as usual in this period...

Only a couple of pictures before the crash happens!

It is always sad when humans try to convert the Face of the earth to their own likes without taking animals and their needs into account. The same happened to a V. aspis population near Metz that I have visited in the past.

By the way, I find the coloration (i.e. the black bars on the back) of one of the viridiflavus you photographed very individual! Never seen that before.
