Bufo siculus matching

Bufo siculus matching

Postby Alessadro Barra » Sun Feb 15, 2015 11:11 pm

Hi, a few days ago walking Mount Pellegrino, located in Palermo. Taking herping I came across a small breeding site of Sicilian green toad (Bufo siculus).
I hope you like this short report.
PS: Sorry for my bad English.

Welcome!

Very nice pics of Bufotes boulengeri siculus
I think I may have visited that pond 10 years ago.

Thanks for the welcome, I knew that it had been split in Bufotes and that even some people consider it a subspecies as you described. I did some research but I only found a lot of confusion on the splitting of the Genus, not to mention the species itself. I would like to understand more sincerely, wrote Bufo siculus to remain conservative. But surely there is someone who knows more than me and will help me to understand more.
Thank you for your attention

Thanks for the link, but it is always unclear. I have read various publications, including a 2008 that I put as a species in its own right.
Here's the link: http://www.biomedcentral.com/1471-2148/8/56
I am very interested in the subject, if anyone has any news or opinion I'd like to discuss.

Apologies, I should have inserted this =>
viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1472&p=14135&hilit=boulengeri#p14135

Nothing has changed since then - restricted gene flow between siculus/boulengeri and viridis/variabilis/balearicus has been nicely demonstrated, but not within either of the two clusters.

Very nice! Sadly when I was there last year the entire mountain was somehow a forbidden area for tourists  But I would love to see some more Sicilian herps so if you have more pictures, keep them coming!

Thanks :) When you have been to Palermo? I would not upload photos of other species, maybe I could go off topic. Would agree to open a new topic?

I was there last year in early May -> http://www.herpsafari.nl/tripreports-eu ... ia-sicily/

And yes! I think I am not the only one who would like to see more pictures of amphibians and reptiles on this board ;)
