A small tour around my house (4 km)

A small tour around my house (4 km)

Ciao I'm relatively new about herps, I like a lot tortoises and I'm now approaching other reptiles, so I tried to contribute with some picture taken in my garden (tarentola) and on the hills around my house.
I live in Southern Italy and precisely in Campania region, near Salerno town ina villa with a big garden.
I apologize for some mistake in species identification
Tis picture was made last week at 8:30 in the morning on the fence around the garden, it is curios thata every morning at the same hour between end of september and october the two lizards bask together:

Podarcis siculus and Trentola mauritanica

At 10:30 Iwent for a little walk on the hills around my house

I could see thousands of podarcis and lacerta escaping very fast and I was not faster with my camera.
Only this two ones I could capture on my digital camera:

Podarcis siculus on a piece of stone

Podarcis muralis on an old tractor

And finally I did find one pair of the very rare Testudo hermanni hermanni

Then I glimpsed another male:

and the carrion of a young female killed by a wild boar:

.
It was very hot last week and the night around the lights of the door entrance I spotted a young Tarentola mauritanica (usual friends of my family):

I've finished my small tour (only 3 hours) around my house and I hope you enjoy as me the nice herps live close to me.

Thank you for the excellent report, Mark!
We hope that the turtles now remain where they are and not fall prey to some criminal bastard!
Unfortunately in your regions is a widespread practice by hunters and poachers to collect turtles for resale! is not true!? (nevvero)?! : Lol:

An affectionate hug, Francesco!

Hello Marco,

first, welcome to our forum!

And thanks for your report.
The wild boar - I have found out - is also a very big problem in Tuscany, together with Hystrix.

Welcome Marco, Thanks for sharing!
Are you sure that the lizard on the tractor is a muralis?

No I'm not sure. I'll be clear with you I dont understand the slight difference between the two taxa (muralis and siculus) and they are sympatric in my zone!
