Thanks. We found 9 walsers with 14 people, including some of probably the best snake finders in Europe (not me, as you will know...), so it takes a bit of effort, but it's worth it - the place is lovely and the fairly high abundance of aspis and Coronella adds to the fun.

Perhaps I should warn you that the Corpo Forestale is keeping an eye open, as we experienced ourselves very quickly. Our encounter with them was very friendly, though, and we applauded their effort.

It may be up for debate if that's really what these vipers need, but one guy mentioned that if more people like us would come, it would benefit their means to protect the area...

dont think so.
As long there are "coordinates" in the publication - and not only in the walser one. if one will find the location of a species, he will get it very quick

No, I was quite impressed about your timing (a week after the paper was published, coincidence? )

Nah. As Mario stated, if someone wants to find them, they'll find them by reading the paper. Good thing you didn't bump into any collectors.

Not really. I agree that locations like this could be easily in some cases or with some effort in others found by whoever wants to find them. I'm actually starting to think that all this secrecy around locations is unfortunately more or less pointless (I'm not advocating publicly sharing that information though). I guess the only way to fight this is that:

People need to have some benefit (preferably economical) to want to protect animal species...Sad but true.
