Same places during last week-end with Massimo, but we did not go to higher altitudes because it was too hard for us. So no walser found... :?: Many nasty horseflies, and only 4 aspis, two of which photographed. ;)

We found walser within the first meters after leaving the village.

Migratory behavior of this new species towards higher altitudes?

Jokes apart, we were probably just unlucky, but near the village the only animals present were horseflies.
We began to find aspis and austriaca well far from the village (I would say at about 1500 m), and we have been till 1600-1700 m altitude maximum if not higher.
What do you say Massimo? :?

P.s. I would like to visit a nearby valley in Piemonte were walser is almost surely present

Yes Ruggero ,you're right, around the village we could only see wall lizards and loads of horseflies.

Yes Massimo, I've controlled and we were maximum between 1700 and 1750 meters above sea level.
Next time we will join Jeroen's group: they will show us where to find the walser, and we will show them how to be persecuted by horseflies!

In situ female, with recently eaten prey

Yesterday I've seen my first walser viper: a female basking with a recently eaten prey in the early morning hours.
It was the only snake found yesterday, and it was found at a well lower (!) altitude than the aspis vipers seen this summer: exactly the opposite one would expect having to do with berus adders.
I knew it was a "walser", this is clear, but in any case I would have thought..."this is a very strange snake... surely not an aspis and not a typical berus either..."
