Tuscany/Pisa

Postby Martti Niskanen » Wed Mar 17, 2010 11:01 am

I'm attending the Biology of the Vipers congress in Pisa/Calci in a couple of weeks and have a couple of days to look for herps. A lot of the herps there will be lifers for me, so I'm not picky. However, I'm mostly interested in finding Vipera aspis. If anyone has any tips on hotspots or particular places to go to, info on them would be much appreciated.

I'll meet people in the congress who know the region anyway, but it's always nice to have as much information beforehand as possible.

Cheers

Hello Martti and Aleksandar,

the best would be: Ask Marco Zuffi in Calci at the meeting. As far as I know, there will be an excursion to some aspis close to Pisa.
Vipera aspis is living there "everywhere", in the Arno flatlands and in the hills/mountains in the north and south of the valley.
I would have been in Calci too - before the change from end of February to the beginning of April. But at the new time I will start to Morocco and therefore can not participate.
