Eastern in Friuli

Eastern in Friuli

Here some pics from 4 days in Friuli, Italy:

http://www.herpetofauna.at/bilder/Geral ... thumb.html

There seemed to be unusually dry weather conditions, nearly everywhere the uppermost soillayer was dry, also many plants showed signs of water deficiency.
Also the numbers of active reptiles were, despite being in the middle of the mating season, subjective of course, quite low.

For the nikon - photographers i can recommend the 300 4.0 AF-S, it's a great lens, esp. for lizard in-situ clicking. Except for the snakes, all pictures have been taken with it.

Cheerio!

Gerald, at first, nice photo's and second thanks for pointing out that lens, I've been looking for something like that for a while now, but almost all 300's are not able to focus as close as 1.45 m.
So now I have an other good reason to save money.....replace the d200 and the 300..Thanks.

Jp, that's exactly the very big advantage of this lens! Unfortunately it has no VR - so you either need a very calm hand or a camera with low noise levels at high-iso settings to avoid blurring .. :( At least in my case the "trembling" is from time to time very annoying because it's quite hard to set up the picture as you want to; and a tripod's not always an opportunity...

I bought mine for 770€ second hand, so it's, although much cheaper than the other 300's, a quite expensive acquisition :?

Hi Gerald,

very nice pictures! The weather conditions in Central Europe start to become a problem - I have never seen such a dry spring in Western Germany. But at leat for the herps it seems to be no problem, so far. Whats the situation in other parts of (Central) Europe?

Nice aspis...I had a fast orchid/herptrip yesterday on the Slovenian/Italian border, but find only ammodytes...and orchids ofcourse.

Here we have a similar problem....a lot of rain in the eastern part of Slovenia, wich is usually dryer and lack of rain in my region wich is usually rich with rain

Thanks Gerald, thats a good link and you are right about the tripod, with lizards it is almost impossible.
