There I was, being all pleased with still being able to spot salamanders in December, when I got this picture from Maltese friend Leonard Zammit. Now THAT's something else!

Yes - I live in the WRONG part of Europe!
As I allways say: "Down with the Alps, free sight to the Mediterranean" ;)
But in this case maybe we wouldnt have Salamandra atra, Vipera aspis "atra", etc., wouldnt be not nice either

Wow!! Impressive photo of your friend. It´s increidible to imagine a chamaleon so actived in the mediterranean in this month so cold.

In Andalussia and some parts of morocco I thing they are very inactived from november to march, although if the weather is favorable they can be actived all the year, and the chamaleon of your friends photo seems very hungry! :)

Cheer up chaps... I live in England.... only a handful of herps, even in the optimum months of the year... no endemics.... Still,at least England remains the only country in the world where you can get a decent cup of tea :D

If I would have been drinking tea while reading that, I fear it would have sprayed out of my mouth. Us Belgians are at least proud for a less dull drink ;)

Jeroen,

Whilst I must concede the low countries do have a certain skill in the art of brewing beer... Nothing beats a splendid cup of tea..

I fear you are too European to understand :D

Kind regards
