Tadpole in the Area of Mertola/Portugal

Postby miguel santos » Sun Dec 08, 2013 4:52 pm

Hi guys,

I am Always a bit hesitant when it comes to this type of tadpoles. I found this little one in a pound ( temporary pound ) to the north east of Mértola. Could it be an Alytes cisternassi? OR a Pelodytes ibericus? I saw an adult pelodytes not far away in an other pound but it managed to excape from a picture.

Thanks

I'm no expert, but my first idea would be Alytes.

I also think that it is an alytes. But tadpoles are sometimes difficult. Pelodytes normally has a more pointy nose. It was unfortanly very cold at night ( 0 / -1 ) therefore no activity of adult animals in the area.

Thanks Jeroen,
