Too much for a summer trip..

Postby GertJan Verspui » Wed Aug 27, 2014 9:36 am

Good morning,

This summer I went with my family to France Spain & Portugal, to visit some of the best places there, in the whole area were only 4 species left I did not see before, so I tried to combine the family fun with only 4 new ones.

Areas we visited: Pyrenees, Picos de Europa, Montes de Leon, Penede Geres NP, Serra da Estrella, Lissabon..., Sierra de Cazorla & Segura and some more on the way back home.

To keep my team/family-members happy I had to buy icecreams every day....

Already enjoyed your report some days ago on your website. Congratz to so many findings in august. Our plans changed a bit, so it didn´t work to meet this time, I hope I can do my spain trip next year.

Dom, thanks, some other time then!

Jeroen, Teira dugesii was the 4th, 2 out of 4 were at the most far away places from home..
and galani was already found, remember the single juvenile spring 2012...but made some great adult photos now, Iberolacerta aurelioi was also new.

(but galani and alytes dickhilleni felt like new ones..)

Mario, Thanks a lot!

A great adventure and a stunning report. Good to see that even some hard snake guys produce delicate lizard shorts...

Thanks Peter, actually I am a poesiecat guy, but Im not allowed to hunt for them anymore, so after that maybe snakes or salamanders come first, then frogs, toads and in the very last place those boring lizards

No thats not true, lizards are the most challenging!

Very nice family-herping-trip, the almost bluish Vipera seoanei seoanei is wonderful. When compared to last year, this month of August is pretty cold (at least in France), so not good for barbecues but really suited for herping. And yes, the french highways are damn expensive! Next time just follow the green lines (free highways) :)

Guillame, thanks, yes that seoanei was very nice, 1 of 4 melanistic ones!

I always try to follow the green routes as much as possible, but still then there are always places where you need to take the peage if you want to keep some speed.
