Southern Spain trip

Postby Pablo Deschepper » Fri Sep 05, 2014 4:49 pm

Hi,

I just came back from an 8 day trip in southern Spain. We mainly visited sites around Malaga. Some of them are: Torcal, lake Vinuela and Sierras de Tejeda. August is not a great herping month so I also included some non herp pics. Hope you guys enjoy them.

First of all the herps (some lizards were to swift to photograph in the burning heat though):

What's the story with the 2 chameleons together in one tree?

Well, we were looking for chameleons the night before with our flashlights and spotted these two up in an olive tree (together with a male in another tree). We marked our path with sticks and went to the same tree the day after and there they were, still together in that same tree. My friend who came with me thinks the spotted one might be a pregnant female, the lighter one is a male (noticeable on other picture). Also, some locals saw us photographing a chameleon and started to sing a song in spanish about the chameleon, which was quite funny :p

Very nice, the spider is great and the Chameleon photos make me want another trip there.

That's either a pregnant female or a very angry male (because of the proximity of the other animal). I provoked the latter one day back in the Algarve in 1999. Slow_living creatures, but they sure put up a fight when they feel somebody's in their yard. I'm sure Bobby will have something to say about the meaning of that colouration.
