Central Spain

Postby Peter Oefinger » Sun Oct 12, 2014 8:23 pm

Hi everybody,
some of you know that this summer not all my plans worked like I hoped... But in September I finally managed to do a another Spain trip. I have to admit I underestimated the late summer heat which made herping sometimes difficult but all in all, it was a beautiful journey. Spain still has a lot of corners which are worth to be visited...
Here's the report:

As allways: no lizards, just frogs and newts ;)

I think anyone who claims to know all about Spanish Podarcis spec. is simply lying

But your report definitely clarified a lot. Great photography, interesting collection of species and a joy to read as always!

Beautiful landscapes! :P

As regards the yellowish and beautiful N.maura, I've to say I've once seen one or maybe two specimens of beautiful yellow coloured N.maura in Italy not very far from where I live (province of Pavia): only 1-2 yellow specimens among many other normal coloured snakes. But this happened many years ago, and the habitat where those animals lived is changed (obviously in worse!), partially destroyed and it's rare to find now there even normally coloured individuals... :(

Great report, thanks! Respect for trying to seperate all the wall lizards, I would have probably reached the overdose level earlier... :D While visiting some of the same locations last year I had the opposite experience temperature-wise: snow and frost on the floor in stead of all the heat.

(And if only they were to build a monument each time adventurous herpers go to Spain, the place would be filled! :))
