First 4 months of 2015 in Portugal

Postby miguel santos » Sat May 16, 2015 7:40 pm

Hi guys,
I've been 3 times this year in Portugal and already saw quite a few species (35), I don't have pics from all but here bellow I have a small compilation of different species.
None were pure herp trips, but they surely look like.
Greetings,

Miguel

The diversity of amphibians in that corner of the continent remains unrivalled... Great list already for the first half of the year and makes me start thinking already of going back there one day.

Great stuff. I feel now like I haven't done Portugal justice so far, in terms of "number of days herped"...

Sweet :)

Makes me sad my Portugal trip was cancelled a couple of years ago.

Some other time...

Hi guys, Thanks for your replyies. I was Lucky for having quite a bit of rain in February and in March, there were quite a lot of anphibians active. The reptiles were active already in March but I only saw ocelated lizards during my trip at the end of April. As I am not planning to go to the North of Portugal this year I think it will be difficult to hit more species. I'll concentrate on nice pictures from now on...

two more pictures and a question?
Would the tadpole be of a Western spadefoot? the picture was taken on the 20th of March it was about 3,5 cm without most of the tale. It was bitten off by some predator, but otherwise it looked healthy and quick under water.

Think so, but I'm no expert.

Such a bulky tadpole with those laterally positioned eyes, I would also dare to bet that's Pelobates cultripes...
