Not too sure about Iberian Lacerta... Too limited experience to confirm or reject alleged rareness (vs. Balkan counterparts).

Thanks Ruggero!

OK, fair enough. What about your "limited" experience? Can you recall where in terms of habitat, and under what conditions you encountered them?

Nowhere special - pretty much like Balkan Lacerta. Maybe a bit more humidity and less disturbance in general. Hopefully others will add their experiences.

Thanks Jeroen. Yes, it would be helpful to get some tips, so anybody with more experience is welcome to share it.

schreiberi is frequently found close to water, I also saw them near human Settlements. bilineata doesn't occur in Galicia, I guess.

I have wondered about how frequent exceptions are. My first ever schreiberi was a juvenile in the middle of a corn field...

My experience with L.schreiberi is mostly limited to the mountains around Madrid (kind of isolated "island" in its distribution range), where I go regularly. I find them around rocky walls, not particularly close to water streams. As an example, below is an individual I found in April in these mountains. As you can see, it was still pretty fresh outside and some parts of the mountains were still covered by snow.

Thanks Guillaume! Wow I thought the only place where they get snow in Spain is far north in the Pyrenese. Is snow as far south as Madrid a regular/annual occurance?

Yes it is, you can even see these snowy mountains from the city of Madrid by good weather. In this area you will therefore find a totally different fauna from what you would expect around Madrid:

No schreiberi in the Pyrenees, sir!
