water turtle ID

Postby miguel santos » Sat Dec 16, 2017 8:02 pm

Hi everyone,
I took these two pictures of a turtle last September in Portugal.
The location was Lagoa de Albufeira some 25Km South of Lisbon (not Albufeira in the Algarve)
I can't really identify the species, is this a Leprosa???
Is this an American species?
Please have a good look and give me your thoughts.

Greetings,

Miguel

thanks for the pics ;)
Yes, it is a slider for sure!
Old, especially females of ssp. elegans turn to complete black very often.
On the carapax you can see the typical T. scripta pattern still a bit.
look at these pictures - nearly complete black too

Thanks for the ID Mario,
I had never seen a T. scripta with such a dark skin and no markings on it's neck.
Greetings.
