Hi all

I have recently been to Portugal. Not a herping trip. But I managed to have some hours to search for Chioglossa lusitanica ssp. lusitanica, the subspecies south of river Mondego. I have never seen it before. I found two of them at two different sites. What a beautiful creature.

Here are some pictures:

Kind regards
Jose Luis

Well done and nice shots, but I think you mean brevidigitata?

Brevidigitata and brevitarsis (which was never published outside this piece of grey literature and as such isn't even listed on ASotW) are junior synonyms of lusitanica. The subspecies south of the Mondego River is the nominal morph lusitanica. The northern morph is longipes.

Note that the author of brevitarsis co-authored the 'new' arrangement, so this is pretty much final.
