Georgia 2015

Postby Tomas Klacek » Mon Sep 28, 2015 8:14 am

Hi,
I just returned from Georgia. It was a hiking trip with my friends in Svaneti region. We have to go almost 140km in 8 days across the mountains - I have not much time to herp, so I unfortnately did not find anything special (no viperas in which I hoped :(). But here are a few photos. Some of these habitats looked great for them...

Bufotes viridis

Darevskia ssp. - if you can id all those lizards I´ll be glad.

Wow, great pictures! I'm hoping to go to Georgia next year and your photos only increase my enthusiasm. Didn't you see any snakes?

Dear Tomas,

fantastic landscape in Svanetia. Unfortunately we haven`t visited this area this year during our trip in May, but I will be back in this wonderful country.
The Svan-towers are impressive!
BTW: The lizards are Darevskia caucasica cucasica.
Nice gecko - we missed it
Our trip report will be (hopefully) online in January - we have to wait for the presentation at the X-mas Party...

Such stunning landscapes! I read about those towers in the National Geographic, very interesting story behind them!

Thank you all! Unfortunately no snake at all. I hoped in V. dinniki and lotievi but I failed. Weather was too hot and dry during daytime with very cold nights slightly above 0 temperatures. I´d like to go back someday and make a trip dedicated to herps. Especially viperas from this area are just stunning.

Martti, we flew to Tbilisi, from where we went by taxi/hitch hiked to Oni. From Oni we go by foot across Ghebi, Zeskho, Tsana, Usghuli and Adishi to Mestia.
