Well I think this would have more replies if it was about UV signalling in vipers... It is actually pretty interesting.
I may be reading it wrong but it seems they separated water from helveticus ponds and vulgaris/helveticus ponds but not the newts themselves? L. vulgaris males do seem to reflect more UV, however the variance in helveticus females' response to UV reflectance in males was much higher, so maybe it's a result of the habitat type and newts of either species in ponds with good UV transmission use it?
