Diploma thesis on allochthonous turtles

I just came across an interesting diploma thesis on allochthonous turtles in Austria.

Fraueneder, A. (2011): Einschätzung des Überlebens- und Reproduktionspotentials allochthoner Wasserschildkröten unter den Klimabedingungen wärmebegünstigter Regionen Österreichs.
in German with english summary:
In Austrian waters turtles can frequently be found, which are mostly native to North America and Asia. Their occurrence is attributable to the release by their owners. Some of these species natively occur – especially on the northern edge of their native range – in regions with similar climatic conditions to those in some parts of Austria. This diploma thesis is following the question, do foreign turtles have the potential to survive and even to breed under the climatic conditions of these favoured areas of Austria. To answer this question four different methods have been selected. Bioclimatic factors from the range of allochthonous turtles were compared with those of regions of Austria with favourable climatic conditions, owners of turtles have been interviewed concerning keeping turtles free range all year round, literature has been evaluated and field investigations have been carried out. The results should allow to visualise the present and future situation and to estimate a possible survival and reproduction potential of allochthonous turtles in Austria. Based on the results of the comparison of bioclimatic factors and the interview of turtle owners, it can be concluded, that turtles with native ranges up to the Northern USA and Southern Canada (Chelydra sp., Chrysemys sp.), most likely have the potential to survive and to breed.
