If you haven't noticed yet, here's some really fresh (and refreshing) reading:

Jelić, D., Ajtić, R., Sterijovski, B., Crnobrnja-Isailović, J., Lelo, S. & Tomović, Lj.:

Distribution of the genus Vipera in the western and central Balkans
(Squamata: Serpentes: Viperidae)

Herpetozoa 25 (3/4) (2012) 109-132.

PDF No. 5034 in the Literature Database.

Very nice... Some (at least to me) surprising dots.

The northern populations of ursinii are separated from the southern ones, right? D. Jelic held a presentation in Vienna last year reg. this topic - and they are quite far from each other. I wonder, why they didn't seperate these two forms in this paper, referring the seperation of the berus and ammo forms in the paper...

If you mean the conspicuous wide gap between Montenegro and Macedonia, one would really expect it
to divide SOMETHING. But that something seems to be more complicated than had been expected...
It requires more work, more samples, more time...
Or perhaps you meant another division, the one between "croatica" and macrops? This one is NOT so
easily seen from the distribution map, which only makes it more interesting...

Yes Bero, I meant the second one between croatica and macrops. Dusan presented it last year in Vienna and if I remember correctly, it was quite a clear border with a high difference between the two clades

As also illustrated in Ferchaud et al. (2012), if I'm not mistaken?
