New species are (or at least should be) acts of taxonomy, not of nomenclature. New names (be it at species level or any other) are acts of nomenclature.

Correct, but to what end? If invalid, the names are imho little more than a nuisance.

The name of the new viper is Pelias shemakheninsis, or better ;) Vipera shemakheninsis.

Abstract:
The analysis of steppe vipers from different parts of the Caucasian Isthmus and from isolated part of the area in the
foothills of southern macroslope of the East Caucasus showed the specific status of the latter that it made it possi-
ble to describe new species — Pelias shemakheninsis sp. nov.

OK, so what do we have? A new species based on morphological data of 2 males and 10 females. Unfortunately, like the Darevskia pontica paper by the same authors without any molecular evidence. Poor English and 4x "eriwanesis" (sic). If anyone thinks the mentioned diagnostic features are valuable from a taxonomic perspective (thus at least fall outside of clinal variation), I would be interested to learn about it.

Always better than Vipera olguni TUNIYEV et al. (2012): 2 males, 5 females and their offspring (7 newborns)

It seems indeed that we have responded similarly to these authors before ;)

This summer seems to be extremely boring: We are talking about taxonomy, birds, insects, fishing lures... What's up, guys?
