… urgent to all Salamandra Experts in the area Aachen!
After the proof of Batrachochytrium salamandrivorans in Belgium, it seems quite likely, that this problem also exist in the near Salamandra populations in NRW. So soon there starts an investigation project in the district of Aachen. The information of occurrence of Salamandra populations there is very patchy, so if someone knows localities please give this to me or directly to the Biological Station.

Something new about B. salamandrivorans :?:

Mutschman told at Gersfeld Meeting, that it was found in few Salamanders in terraria.
But to my knowledge until now not in wild German populations.
The investigations are still ongoing

In short - the fungus originates from Asia, is very lethal to practically the entire range of tested members of the Salamandridae family (tested on Salamandrina perspicillata, Salamandra salamandra, Pleurodeles waltl, Euproctus platycephalus, Lissotriton italicus, Ichthyosaura alpestris, Triturus cristatus, Neurergus crocatus, of which all infected individuals died, but strangely not in Lissotriton helveticus...) + (at least) Hydromantes strinatii. It came to Europe through the pet trade from Asia :evil:
