Literature Pristurus

Hello together,

Can anyone recommend an article/website etc. which gives a good overview how to distinguish the Pristurus sp.? I try to sort the photos I made during my last Oman trip in the north of the country.
To be honest, I try to prevent buying the book The Amphibians and Reptiles of Oman and UAE because I don‘t know when I will travel to Oman again ;)

Greetings,
Tine

You can usually quite easily distinguish them by their "looks":

Photo credits herpetofauna.at: Ch. Riegler, R. Kopeczky and me

P. rupestris (very common):

P. minimus (very small, sandy regions):

P. celerrimus (longest P. in Oman, mountains, notice striped tail)

P. gallagheri (usually prominent bright stripe on back, small distribution range)

P. carteri (very distinctive shape)

Send me your email-adress as privat message, then I can foward you a pdf of The herpetofauna of the Sultanate of Oman. Images are in bad resolution in this one, but I think still think better than nothing.

PS. it's a pity that you didn't buy the book before your trip ;-)
PPS. Oman is always worth a second trip! ..and a third. And i also heard a fourth

Cheers
Gerald

Hi Gerald,

thanks for your reply. It was my 4th trip to Oman :D but in the past I watched more birds than reptiles. What I am looking for is the difference between the Pristurus rupestris and Pristurus sp. 1-5 as mentioned in the pdf „Diversity, distribution and conservation of terrestrial reptiles of Oman“.
Thanks for the offer, I will send you my email address.

Ok, now, after sending you the mail and cross-reading the paper you mentioned, I finally got what you meant
I also have no clue how to distinguish the different splitted species of former P. rupestris...
