Snake id

Postby Marcel Haak » Sun Jun 18, 2023 7:37 am

Hello everybody,
I found this snake on Crete, near Chania.
In terms of appearance I thought of Hierophis gemonensis. But it is very similar to Hierophis viridiflavus. What do you think?
I thought that Hierophis viridiflavus didn't occur on Crete?

Kind regards

Marcel

Hi Macel,

this seems to be an aberant gemonensis.
Many such morphs of the Balkan Racer are known all over its distribution area.
